Midsummer is one of the most important parties in Finnish culture. Midsummer is placed on this coming weekend and it is a national holiday. Mostly people gather together in their summer cottages and spend the long weekend relaxing with good company. During this weekend you barely see any people in cities.
Take a look of this video to get the impression:
Midsummer has some old traditions:
- sauna & swimming
- lightning bonfires – to keep evil spirits away
- midsummer spells
Here are few spells that you can try during the coming weekend 😉
- put nine different flowers under your pillow and you will see your future spouse or his name in your dreams
- if you roll naked on a dewy field you will meet your future spouse during the year
- go standing on crossroads middle of midsummer night and you will meet your future spouse
and so on, the list goes on!
